80 minutes fire resistance achieved

We are pleased to announce that a test conducted on our Pyrovista® 60 timber glazed screen system has achieved 80 minutes integrity in accordance with BS 476 Part 22.

The test was conducted at Bodycote Warrington. The test specimen contained 4 panes of glass, the largest of which measured 2000mm x 2160mm. Test report WF 164312 refers.

The photographs on the right show the fire test at its commencement and continuing up to 60 minutes. It can be see that as the test continues the glass changes from its clear (cold state) and becomes opaque. This is because intumescent technology is used to separate the laminated glass panes.

As the temperature increases in the fire, a reaction is caused to the intumescent interlayer’s. These absorb the heat energy generated by the fire thus keeping the non fire or protected side much cooler than the fire side.

In the built environment Pyrovista screens of this nature can be used to provide exceptional levels of fire compartmentation adequate means of escape and protection to the buildings fabric.

The glass was glazed using Pyroglaze® 60 seals and the outer frame to structural wall was fire stooped using Pyromas® A acrylic sealant
